Recreating 5 of the world’s most extravagant weddings

We’ve all heard or seen some extravagant weddings in the press – from Kate Middleton’s beautiful affair to Kim Kardashian’s gigantic flower wall.

Weddings are one of the most celebrated events in a person’s lifetime, so it’s no secret that people tend to spend a lot of money making it an event to remember.

Whilst some border on the ridiculous, there’s no denying how fabulous some of these extravagant weddings are. We’ve compiled a list of some of the greats and how you can recreate them with Barlens – without the million dollar price tag!

  1. Prince William & Kate Middleton - $34 million

The royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was probably the biggest wedding in recent history. The couple tied the knot in 2011 at none other than the traditional Westminster Abby. It was estimate that approximately 2 billion people tuned in to the wedding from all over the world.

Nothing says royal quite like rolling out the red-carpet.

Nothing says celebration like bubbles! Whether it’s a $60 or $6,000 bottle, flutes and glassware are must-haves.

  1. Kim Kardashian & Kanye West - $12 million

‘Kimye’ certainly went all out for their big day. Millions of dollars were spent on the dress, venue, flights and accommodation for all guests – and the wedding’s flowers were worth a small fortune! It’s estimated that the total flower costs were $136,000 including the huge floral ‘wall of flowers’ centrepiece. Tuberose, an extremely rare flower known for its unique scent, was the culprit behind most of the cost.

Fresh flowers are a beautiful addition to any wedding, there are many ways to incorporate them into your celebration. Whilst we can't all afford a huge wall of them, a beautiful natural landscape can create a stunning backdrop to your event.

  1. Wayne Rooney & Coleen McLoughlin – $8 million

These high-school sweethearts exchanged vows in 2008. Despite having only 8 guests, they tallied up a bill of $8 million! The elaborate ceremony was broken up into two stages, with the first part of the celebration taking place in a 330-year-old villa beneath a Louis XVI chandelier.

Chandeliers carry a certain amount of vintage class. The lighting of wedding can definitely help set the mood and tone of the event. Looking for the old-world charm? Try using some candelabras or hang a chandelier from a beautifully draped pavilion roof.

  1. Christina Aguilera & Jordan Bratman - $2 million

These musically inclined superstars were married in 2005 with a modest wedding of 150 guests at the Napa Valley’s Staglin Family Vineyard. Apart from the $80,000 Spanish-style Christian Lacroix gown, the $2 million price tag included an elaborately decorated winter-themed tent with white roses, silver and crystals.

The great thing about pavilions is that they are so versatile and customisable – a blank canvas for your wedding party.
